Study Abroad Host University in Valparaiso

Santiago Language Courses Academic year, semester and summer study abroad programs for international students are offered at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) - one of the most prestigious universities in Chile.

The University was founded in 1928 and received its designation as a "Pontificia" in 2003. "Pontificia" means a distinction given to Catholic universities by the Vatican.

The University offers more than 60 undergraduate and 30 postgraduate degree programs to over 16,000 students. Every semester almost 250 international students from the United States, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and many other countries are coming to the University in Valparaiso to take classes together with their Chilean peers.

At the beginning of each semester, international students will have a weeklong orientation. During the orientation process PUCV international students will be given useful information about the most advisable classes to take, plus useful tips about the University and the city in general.

In order to study one semester at PUCV, it is advisable to have an adequate knowledge of the Spanish language (at least three semesters of formal instruction). However, even beginners can participate in "Summer" and January programs.

The campuses of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso are located in both Valparaíso and it's twin city of Viña del Mar. It's main campus with administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, libraries and computer labs is in Valparaiso. All international students will have have access to computer, sports and recreation facilities of the University.
