This qualification is recognised throughout the world as an essential qualification for entering TEFL as a profession. It is also a relevant qualification in the teaching of English as a second language, for which there is a growing demand in this country. Each course includes a session on employment opportunities both abroad and in South Africa.
During the course, we will display a notice board with the names of several websites and recruitment agencies devoted to the English Language industry, as well as the e-mail addresses of language schools overseas who have contacted us looking for CELTA graduates, and ideas about working locally. There are literally thousands of jobs available in the English Language industry worldwide.
Many of our past TEFL trainees have gone on to work in South America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle and Far East, Australia and other parts of Africa, not to mention within South Africa itself. Furthermore, our school employs a small number of graduates each year to teach English to foreigners and English for Business.
South African nationals who are interested in working in Europe should be aware that restrictions on work permits in some countries may reduce the opportunities available. However, this applies mostly to Western Europe and there is ample opportunity for employment in Eastern and Central Europe. Japan, Korea and the Pacific Rim countries as well as the Middle East are also rich sources of employment for English language teachers.
