Application Deadlines and Minimum Age

Normally, we must receive your application no later than 30 days before the program starts. We also accept last minute applications. However, acceptance of all applications is subject to space availability. We recommend to apply as far in advance as possible.

To enroll you have to be at least 16 years of age except for the summer program for Young Learners.

Visa Requirements

Anyone who is not an Australian citizen needs a valid visa to enter and stay in Australia. There are many types of visas, each designed to suit a specific purpose, the length of the proposed stay in Australia and the type of activities people want to do when they get here.

If you are going to study English or take one of the English Plus Activities courses (English plus Activities, English and Surfing or Diving, or English and Music and you do not intend to stay in Australia more than 3 month, you need to apply for a Visitor/Tourist visa.

If you are going to study English full-time for more than 3 months, you need to apply for a student visa. You may apply for this type of visa only if an education or training course offered by an Australian education provider registered with the Australian Government to offer courses to overseas students. English School in Cairns is registered with the Australian Government to offer courses to overseas students.

How to apply?

  1. Online. You may apply online only if you pay an application fee and a tuition deposit online by credit card. We accept VISA and MasterCard. In our Online Secure Application Form, we utilize the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication and RC4 128 bit encryption technology. SSL encryption protects information being transmitted across the internet to our processing center.

  2. You can also send your application by Fax or Mail. Just print out a Monospaced Printable Application Form from your browser, complete it and send your application by fax or mail. If you decide to use a Monospaced Printable Application Form, you can pay the application fee and the tuition deposit by credit card, certified (cashiers) check, money order or wire transfer. You will find detailed payment instructions on the application form.

Please send us the folowing:

  1. Completed application (printed or online).

  2. A non-refundable application fee of US$100 and a Tuition Deposit of US$200. The above fee and the deposit are part of the cost of your program and are deducted from the total of the program fees after conversion into Australian dollars according to the current exchange rate for buyers communicated by IPSA on the invoice date. Please note that your application will be considered only when your payment of the application fee and the tuition deposit has been received.

Upon receiving your application and your payment of the required fee(s) and the tuition deposit, we will e-mail you a confirmation letter of your enrolment details and invoice for the balance due. The balance may be paid in Euros or in U.S. Dollars. The payment of the balance of fees is due upon receipt of invoice. Your place will be confirmed only when the full payment has been received.

You may pay the balance by wire transfer, certified (cashiers) check, money order, or by credit card. We accept Visa and Mastercard. You will find payment details on the Application forms.

Students who need a student visa have to send us course fees first. We will then issue a confirmation of enrollment - COE. This COE must be presented to the embassy with a student visa application form.

Australian immigration policy requires that all tuition costs for English language training be paid prior to visa issue.

Classes are normally not held and school facilities are closed on national holidays. Compensation will not be made for public holidays.


Attendance is an integral part of your course and an important staple of the learning process. Neither refunds, nor class time will be given for classes not attended.

If Student Visa is denied

If a Student Visa application is denied, the student must cancel the course as soon as possible and all fees, except non-refundable items, will be refunded according to the cancellation and refund policy listed below. The Student must return the Official letter of Acceptance, along with a letter from the Immigration Department stating that the student visa was denied.

Postponement of Courses

Students who wish to postpone their start date must contact us by written notice as early as possible. If this notice does not reach the school within 20 days before the original start date, a fee of $200.00 will be charged.

For the accommodation (homestay or dormitory stay), 20-day notice is required for a full refund. If a cancellation is received within 19 days from the start date, total accommodation fee, limited to the maximum one month fee, and management fee will be forfeited.

Cancellation before arrival

You must inform the office in writing. Cancellation fees are charged as follows, and any balance is refunded less non-refundable items (application fee, course registration fee, accommodation placement fee, bank fee and payment processing charges, international courier service fees):

  • More than 30 days before the program begins: Cancellation fee of US$200.
  • Less than 30 days, but more than 14 days before the program begins: Cancellation fee of US$200 and 25% of tuition fees.
  • No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received 14 or less days before the program starts.

  • If your application for a student visa is denied, your cancellation notice and a copy of the denial letter from the Australian Embassy must reach us no later than 14 days before the program starts in order to be eligible for refund according to the terms and conditions listed above.

Cancellation after the course and/or lodging has started

In no case money will be refunded once the course and/or lodging has started. No refund can be given for partial attendance or the discontinuance or interruption of the course. Deposits and fees are not transferable from person to person. Students are advised to take out cancellation insurance with their local provider in case they need to cancel their courses within 30 days of the start date or while they are on the course. We reserve the right to cancel any class.

Persistent Misconduct

The School reserves the right to terminate without notice the course and accommodation of any student who persistently misconducts him/herself in classes or in the family. Cancellation charges apply as above.

Force Majeure.

It is a basic stipulation of the agreement/contract between students and IPSA or consortium member schools or representatives, that neither IPSA, nor any of its member schools or representatives, is liable to the students in cases where IPSA or the school is unable to fulfill any services to which they are contractually bound because of labor disputes or other reasons beyond their control.
