Art & Design Study Abroad Programs in Italy: Sculpture and Ceramics.

All courses are taught in English.

Michelangelo himself was inspired by it. Without it, some of the greatest icons of the Renaissance could have never been created: Carrara marble. For well over two thousand years the Carrara marble mines and workshops have played a central role in the development of Italian art and architecture. When you come to our school, you will use that same marble to learn chiseling, hammering and air tool techniques. Visits to quarries, traditional workshops and other locations dedicated to marble sculpture all help you get a better feel for the entire world of sculpture, from raw stone to the finished project.

But there is more to sculpture than just marble. Here in the Sculpture and Ceramics department, you will also work with clay, wire and plaster, casting from plaster, and flexible molds in wax and paper. Create ceramics, learning how to wedge, pinch, coil and slab before applying slips and glazes before firing. Whether you look to follow in Michelangelo's footsteps or obtain new skills in ceramics, we have something to offer.
