Academic Study Abroad Programs in Italy: Film Studies

All courses are taught in English.

Italy is one of the great centers of the film world and our school offers excellent opportunities for students in this field. Film Studies and Communications Majors enhance their understanding of cinema by investigating the Italian approach to film. But studying movies is not only for the specialists: it is also an effective way for any student to gain insights into Italian culture and society.

Rome - Our school in Rome collaborates with some of the leading film institutions of Rome, such as the Istituto LUCE, "ACT Multimedia" and above all Cinecittą, which is the largest film and television production facility in Europe, second in size only to Holywood. This makes Rome an ideal location for pursuing the course Film: The Spectator's Experience, or for exploring aspects of Italy in courses such as Film and Mafia or History of Rome through the Cinema.

Florence - In collaboration with the University of Florence, our school in Florence offers courses in the history of international cinema, the history of cinema in Italy, the theories and techniques of cinematographic language, and the history and theory of documentary films. We also offer more practical approaches to film. These include our video production courses, our film club, and our deep involvement in Florence's Festival dei Popoli, a major international documentary film festival. For this annual event a selected group of our students form a jury that awards the Lorenzo de'Medici Prize. (Last year the Prize went to Audrius Stonys for the film Uku Ukai.)
