The St. James Building was built in 1886 has views stunning of Madison Square Park and, the Flatiorn District, and Midtown. When the St. James was built on the site of one of the 19th Century's most elegant hotels, it stood in the heart of New York's wealthiest neighborhood just across from Delmonico's. Designed by renowned architect Bruce Price, it is a striking combination of stone, brick, terra cotta, iron and copper in the Beaux Arts style with extensive detailing inside and out. One of its original treasures - a lobby mural painted by the famous French decorating firm of Arthur Brounet is maintained in its original glory.
Begun in 1929, the Empire State Building has been New York City's most popular attraction since its completion in 1934. The Big Apple's premier landmark towers 102 stories above Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. The building itself comprised of long, sleek, vertical lines gradually tiers to a dramatic pinnacle that belies its voluminous mass. Blending art deco with elements of modern design, the powerful yet optimistic schematics strike at an emotional chord that hark back to a visionary city as it was still being constructed at mid-century.
