Intensive English Language Program
The College Intensive English Language Program (IELP) is designed to assist international students who are non-native speakers of English. The program provides beginning, intermediate and advanced instruction in reading, writing and speaking. Students at the beginning and intermediate levels will be enrolled full-time in the program. Advanced level students may be co-enrolled in a limited number of regular college courses.

Students may complete their first two years of college-level coursework at the College in Mattoon before continuing their education at a four-year college or university. The College in Mattoon is geographically close to four major Illinois Universities: the University of Illinois, Eastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, and Illinois State University. The College in Mattoon transfer program courses are designed to transfer directly to the universities program of study, thus providing a specialized, low cost alternative to the first two years of academic study.

Students will be assigned to the appropriate level based on placement testing. If your TOEFL scores are 500 and above, you will be allowed to enroll in regular academic courses without any support from the IELP.
