About DELTA

    Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) is recognized internationally as an advanced professional qualification for TESOL teachers and it can count towards a MA TESOL degree in many institutions worldwide. For teachers with little or no experience we also offer the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).

    What Are the DELTA Course Objectives?

    The DELTA course aims to develop teachers' knowledge of the theories underlying current English Language Teaching methodologies, and to develop and extend teachersŐ classroom skills and techniques. As with the Cambridge CELTA, there is a strong emphasis on the practical application of theory.

    What does the DELTA Course Cover?

    The DELTA syllabus areas are:

    1. Language awareness
    2. The background to teaching and learning English at adult level
    3. Resources and materials
    4. Working in the classroom
    5. Evaluation, monitoring and assessment
    6. Professional development


    How Is the DELTA Course Structured?

    Since 2005, English Teaching Center in San Francisco has been offering an intensive full-time program over 8 weeks (9.30 - 5.30 Monday through Friday) with teaching practice (10 hours per course participant) either with course participants' own classes in the Bay Area, or during the afternoons at the English Language School in San Francisco). Course participants must also complete 300 hours of reading and research, and observe 10 hours of experienced teachers' lessons.

    How Are Candidates Assessed?

    Each candidate must complete 8 assignments during the course. These include 5 practical teaching assignments consisting of two parts: a written summary of background reading and research, followed by the planning and execution of a lesson and post-lesson analysis. In addition, candidates must complete an extended assignment and a sit a 31/2 hour written examination, which takes place in June.
