The Weather and What to Wear

Taiwan is a sub-tropical island. The seasons are hot and humid, hot, humid and rainy, hot and humid and hot and humid with occasional temperatures falling down to 10 degrees Celsius [50 degrees fahrenheit]. There is no need for heavy woolen underwear. However, there is generally no central heating in buildings, so even 10 degress centigrade during the winter months will seem cold. You may need some pullovers or sweaters. A windbreaker will be useful, especially if you ride a scooter.

The advice for Taiwan is to bring as light as possible. Things that you may need can be found in all major cities of Taiwan. If you wear larger sizes of clothing and foowear, you may find it hard to find clothing in your size.

For men: shorts and shirts, T-shirts, a couple of dress shirts and favorite ties. A couple of dress trousers and a light jacket will do for the 'professional' look. Dont forget to bring a light raincoat. Bring light walking shoes, a pair of dress shoes and socks and swimming trunks.

For women: combinations of light colored blouses, a couple of dresses, your special cosmetics, dress shoes and casual footwear. Many businesses have something against open-toed dress footwear. Also bring a swim suit, shorts and T-shirts. In general: Bring your supply of prescribed medication, contact lens kit,sun glasses, flash lights, business/name cards, and a supply of small gifts representative of your native country. What you forget, you can buy in Taiwan. Most department stores and Watson's stores here have a wide selection of personal needs items. Clothing in Taiwan is generally more expensive, especially for good dress clothing.
