DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, or "Spanish as a Foreign Language Diploma". It is the only certificate for non-native Spanish speakers that is officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. This diploma is of great international value for those who are going to study at a Spanish University and who want to work, or are going to work in a Spanish speaking environment. We advise everyone taking a long term Spanish course to take the DELE examination.
The examination dates are established by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. Because of the practical advantages students can take the DELE examination in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, although it is also possible to take the DELE exam outside Spain.
The examination fees are set each year by the Ministry, Instituto Cervantes and each examination centre. The deadline for enrolment is usually one month before the examination date. Students who wish to enroll for the DELE examination can contact the Spanish Embassy, Consulate, Instituto Cervantes or our office.
As we have the advantage that the University of Las Palmas is a DELE examination centre and offer examinations twice a year in May and November, we offer DELE preparation courses. The three certificates the students can obtain are:
- Certificado Inicial de Español - C.I.E. - corresponds to Level A2.
- El Diploma de Español (Nivel Intermedio) - D.I.E. - corresponds to Level B2.
- El Diploma de Español (Nivel Superior) - D.S.E. - corresponds to Level C1/C2.
DELE preparation courses with 20 lessons a week are offered in May and November for 4 weeks before examination date. You can enroll in a Standard Group course at level A2 or level B2 to prepare for C.I.E. - Certificado Inicial de Español or D.I.E. - El Diploma de Español (Nivel Intermedio).
To prepare for D.S.E. - El Diploma de Español (Nivel Superior), students should take a private or semi-private Spanish language course at levels C1 or C2 (semi-private courses are offered for two students with the same level arriving together). The duration of the course depends on the student's level and progress. However, to prepare for the DELE Superior level, we recommend a minimum of 80 hours of instruction.
