Learn Spanish on Canary Islands!

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria offers a cosmopolitan atmosphere and allows you to enjoy a happy stay on the Canary Islands while learning Spanish. Gran Canaria is the second largest island and because of its different landscapes and variety of climates enjoys the title of "Miniature Continent". Gran Canaria's dunes and beaches of golden sand attract over 2,000,000 visitors every year and Las Palmas is a home of the University with 20,000 students.





Application Deadlines

Normally, we must receive a complete set of application documents and fees no later than 21 days before the program starts. Acceptance of late applications is subject to space availability.

Financial Aid

In many cases, it is possible for students to transfer much or all of their financial aid to IPSA study abroad programs presented on this site. However, students should discuss specific plans with study abroad advisers and financial aid counselors well in advance of the program. It is the student's responsibility to understand the home institution's requiremnents and deadlines regarding all financial aid funds.

Academic Credits

Students who wish to receive credit for our programs should contact the study abroad office or Spanish language department at your college or university prior to starting the program. Present your plan to them asking for detailed requirements on how to arrange credit in advance. With the detailed information from your home-campus, we can typically provide syllabae and other documentation to complete arrangements.

How to apply?

We encourage you to apply online, but you may also print out a monospaced Application Form from your browser, complete it and send yor application by mail or Fax. Please note that you may apply online only if you pay an application fee and deposit online by credit card.

We accept VISA and MasterCard. In our Online Secure Form, we utilize the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication and RC4 128 bit encryption technology. SSL encryption protects information being transmitted across the internet to our processing center.

If you are going to pay by a certified check, money order or by wire transfer, please clcik here to access a monospaced Application Form, print it out from your browser, complete it and send with your payment by mail.
Please send us the folowing:
  1. Completed application (printed or online).

  2. An autobiographical essay including reasons for wishing to study abroad.

  3. A non-refundable application fee of US$60 and the Tuition Deposit of $200. Please note that your application will be considered only when your payment of the Application Fee the Tuition Deposit has been received. The Tuition Deposit is part of the cost of your course and is deducted from the total tuition fees after conversion in Euro according to the current exchange rate.

  4. If you need a student visa, please apply as early as possible before the commencement of your program.
Upon receiving your application and the application fee and Tuition Deposit, we will send you a Confirmation of Registrations and Invoice. Please note that we must receive a balance due for tuition and accommodation fees due at least 21 days before the commencement of your program. the payment of the balance may be made in Euro or in U.S. Dollars according to the current exchange rate.

You may pay by wire transfer, check or money order, or by credit card. We accept Visa and Mastercard. You will find payment details on the printable monospaced or online secure Application forms.

Visa Regulations
US citizens with ordinary passports, valid for a minimum of 6 months, who wish to stay in Spain for tourist or business purposes for up to 90 days DO NOT NEED A VISA.

Citizens of the following countries, with an ordinary passport, valid for a minimum of 3 months, who wish to stay in Spain for tourist or business purposes for up to 90 days DO NOT NEED A VISA:

ANDORRA, ARGENTINA, AUSTRALIA, BOLIVIA, BRAZIL, BRUNEI, CANADA, THE CHECK REPUBLIC, REPUBLIC OF SLOVAKIA, COLOMBIA, SOUTH KOREA, COSTA RICA, CHILE, CYPRUS, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, ESTONIA, GUATEMALA, HOLLY SEE, HONDURAS, HUNGARY, ICELAND, ISRAEL, JAPAN, LATVIA, LIECHTENSTEIN, LITHUANIA, MALAYSIA, MALTA, MEXICO, MONACO, NICARAGUA, NORWAY, NEW ZEALAND, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, POLAND, REPUBLIC OF CROATIA, REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA, SAN MARINO, SEYCHELLES, SINGAPORE, SWITZERLAND, URUGUAY, VENEZUELA, and citizens of THE EUROPEAN UNION.

However, a student visa is mandatory for any foreigner wishing to study in Spain for 3 months or longer.

Other Terms and Conditions

General
IPSA and Member Schools are not liable in any cases of force majeure (according to the law) or for actions of the students and their consequences.
Classes
  1. Minimum age is 16.
  2. If a group has fewer than 6 students (or fewer than 3 in the Superior level), the 20 hours a week will be reduced to 15. Lessons for groups are held in the morning and private ones in the afternoon. A lesson lasts 50 minutes. The school is open during Easter and Christmas and only closes on feast days. The classes for those days will be recuperated.
  3. Total Beginners start the first Monday of every month. Beginners with little knowledge may join the course 1 or 2 weeks later. After 8 weeks this group reaches the Intermediate level, and after 6 more weeks the group reaches the Advanced level, which continues for another 6 weeks. The Superior level is thought for those students preparing a DELE examination (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language). The duration of this course depends on the diploma level and should be a minimum of 4 weeks. On the enrolment form the level the student wants to join has to be clearly specified. Non-beginners can start any Monday of the year
Insurance and Visa
  1. You are not insured against illness or accidents, theft or loss of personal possessions through the school or those offering the accommodation. We therefore highly recommend to take a personal insurance policy.
  2. Western European citizens do not require a visa to enter Spain. Citizens from other countries should contact their nearest Spanish Embassy or Consulate to check the details regarding entry permits. Certificates can only be issued by the school if the registration has been received and the deposit has been paid.
Postponement of Courses, Changes and Last Minute Bookings
  1. The office must receive written notification at least 14 days before your course begins in order to transfer your reservation to a later course date.
  2. For last minute bookings and last minute changes (arrival within 2 weeks) a €60 supplement will be charged.
Cancellation and Refunds
You must inform the office in writing. Cancellation fees are charged as follows, and any balance is refunded:
  • More than 21 days before the course begins: Tuition Deposit
  • Less than 21 days before the course begins: Tuition Deposit and 10% of Tuition and accomodation fees.
  • Less than 14 days before the course begins: Tuition Deposit and 20% of Tuition and accomodation fees.
  • No refunds will be made 48 hours before the starting date and/or once the course and/or lodging has started.
