About the lessons and study materials
Our teachers use a combination of activities and course materials to ensure that lessons are stimulating and that students get the most effective practice of the four skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening.
A variety of communicative activities and language development games are used to build students' communicative competence and confidence.
We have a wide range of well-known EFL course books at our disposal, but the majority of our classes use the Headway and Cutting Edge series, and we have a comprehensive resources centre from which our teachers can supplement coursebook work with other materials. We recommend that students bring a dictionary.
First Mondays
On the first Monday morning students come to Reception before 09h00, where they are welcomed by our staff.
The comprehensive placement test usually starts at 09h00 and not only assesses students' knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, but also their oral, reading, writing and listening skills. The placement test could take up to 2 hours as it is a very in-depth process.
Once they have completed the placement test they are given a full orientation session during which the school and the location are discussed. Students are also introduced to the Director of Studies and the staff who are responsible for their welfare and leisure activities.
After orientation the students will be taken on a walk around Sea Point where students will be shown where what is. This should take about 45 minutes. At round about 12h00 students have the choice to go on a Cape Town city tour.
