Spanish Language School in Granada:
Activities
Located one hour south of Managua, Nicaragua's capital city, Granada provides access to many of the cultural and natural wonders of the country. Boat excursions from Granada take you to Ometepe, a large island with a nature preserve, extensive hiking trails, and numerous petroglyphs and archaeological sites.
Cultural Programs:
The School's directors, Dr. Gregory Calvert and Dr. Ken Carpenter, provide an initial orientation session for new students. They also conduct regular seminars and discussion groups on Central American history, politics, environmental issues and culture. Guest speakers, field trips and special activities help expose students to the land and people, and give them practical experience using the Spanish language.
Our students who have some proficiency in Spanish may also volunteer for a few hours a day with a variety of social service programs, such as children's' feeding programs, youth centers, environmental brigades, or work in clinics or hospitals.
