New Building
Our new school building in Christchurch is, bigger, better, more modern, next to Latimer Square and only two blocks from the cathedral.
Christchurch
Christchurch is New Zealand’s 2nd largest city with a population of 345,000. There are many things to do both in the city and in the area around Christchurch. Expect to pay about US$60 per week including power for a flat (apartment) or about $10 a night in a back-packers or hostel. A bus ride is $0.90 and concession cards are available. There are many different places to eat. A film (movie) costs $6 or $4 with a student card. Like most New Zealand towns, many of the shops are open 9:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday and shut at lunch time on Saturday.
Classes:
You can join a class any Monday. Morning classes start at 9:00am and finish at 12:00pm with a fifteen minute break at 10:30am. Afternoon classes start at 1:15pm and finish at 3:15pm.
Morning classes concentrate on grammatical correctness and confidence building as well as increasing vocabulary and communication skills. Afternoon classes concentrate on conversational and situational skills, with the emphasis on speaking, listening and expressing ideas. All levels are taught from elementary to advanced. Exam preparation courses are offered for Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS and Pitmans exams.
Climate:
Hot and dry in the Summer (20 to 30oC) so bring light clothes and sunglasses, and cold in the Winter (3 to +10oC) so bring warm clothes and your ski gear. Autumn and Spring can also be cool so some warm clothes are a good idea.
