English Language School in Auckland:
English Language Courses.

Classes are Monday to Friday, from 9.00-12.00 in the morning and 1.00-4.00 in the afternoon, with a half hour tea/coffee break in the morning and afternoon. One afternoon per week 3.30 - 4.00pm, students in the school join together in guided conversation to build confidence and fluency. A teacher is available, free, Mondays 4.15-5.15pm, to assist with personal academic problems. Average class size: 7 students. Maximum class size: 14 students.

Programs and Courses

General English Courses

  • Course starting dates: Every Monday of the year
  • Levels available: 8 levels (Absolute Beginner to Advanced)
  • Length of courses: Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 52 weeks.

  • Course content:
    Morning classes emphasise grammar and structural English; afternoon classes emphasise communicative English, including CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) on some afternoons.

  • Courses available:

    1. Part-Time General English: 12.5 hours a week

    2. Full-Time General English: 25 hours a week.

    3. Full-Time Plus Individual English: 30 hours a week. Same as full-time, plus one hour individual tuition daily (4.15pm - 5.15pm)

    4. Individual: Courses arranged at times to suit individual needs.

Exam Preparation Courses

    CAMBRIDGE (PET, BEC Intermediate, First Certificate, Advanced, Proficiency); IELTS; TOEFL; TOEIC. Acceptance onto all examination courses is at the discretion of the Director of Studies.

    1. Cambridge Exam Courses: If student level is found not to be satisfactory after student arrival in New Zealand, student will either take a General English Course or transfer to an Exam Course at a lower level (if available).

      Examinations are usually held in the week after the Exam Course has finished. Students need to ensure they book accommodation for this extra period. Teachers are available at no extra charge to assist students with revision and exam preparation during the examination week. Students may sit Cambridge exams at more than one level if they wish.

    2. IELTS, TOEFL AND TOEIC Courses: Students wishing to take these Exam Courses need to enrol for a General English Course that commences at least 2 weeks before the chosen Exam Course Registration date. When in New Zealand, the student will be assessed prior to entry to the chosen Exam Course. If student level is not satisfactory, the student can either continue with a General English Course or transfer to an Exam Course at a lower level (if available).

Academic Year Program

    Students commence in full time General English Courses. When student level is satisfactory, students extend their academic horizons by taking relevant:

      (a) Examination Courses: Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and
      (b) English Plus Courses


    Length of course: 36 weeks
    Course starts: Every Monday of the year (Auckland and Christchurch)
    Fee includes: 36 weeks full time English, exam fees/text/materials,Certificate of the Academic Year Programme, International Examination Certificates
    Entry Requirement: 18 years +

Business Partner Program

    2 weeks English Plus Activity Program and one afternoon each week, 4.30pm-5.30pm, meeting and talking with a practising professional: dentist or doctor or lawyer.

    Length of course: 2 weeks
    Course starts: Every Monday of the year (Auckland and Christchurch)
    Fee includes: 2 weeks English Plus Activity Programme and 2 hours conversation with a practising professional of your choice.
    Entry Requirement: Intermediate +

Farm Weekend

    Auckland: Visit farm house, attend Sheep-n-Show with the opportunity to handle and shear sheep. Visit a dairy farm with the opportunity to milk cows. Attend a church service. Ride a tractor. Go horse riding. Visit a local dog breeder.

    Christchurch: Visit a sheep farm and spend your time watching a sheep farm in operation. The farm is 90 minutes by bus from Christchurch.

    Length of course: 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) and 1 night (Saturday).
    Course starts: Every Saturday of the year (except 30 March, 21 December and 28 December), Auckland and Christchurch.
    Fee includes: Pick up and return to homestay. Meals, all entry fees, 1 night accommodation on the farm.
    Entry Requirement: All levels accepted for Auckland. Low Intermediate + for Christchurch.

Silver Program For Students 50 Years +

  • A separate lounge for relaxation away from younger students when desired. Free postcards and writing materials.

  • A School staff member is assigned to be your "buddy" while you are in New Zealand, to assist you to enjoy New Zealand.

  • A home stay with host families with your interests (wherever possible).

  • Native speaking counsellors available if any medical assistance is required.
