Accommodation Options

We offer several accommodation options for students coming to learn Japanese with us from other countries. All options offer a private room.

Homestay

The opportunity to stay with a Japanese host family is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the culture, and practice at "home" Homestay familywhat you learned at school that day.

Fukuoka Language CoursesWhen arranging a host family for you, we try to take into account any needs or preferences you may have, such as smoker or non-smoker, allergies, English ability, and so on. Your host family can act as guides and mentors, friends and companions, and a wonderful resource in your adventure in Japan. They are likely to be the people you become closest to during your stay, which is why we perform a thorough screening of all host family applicants, to ensure that they can provide a suitable environment to assist your learning and to allow you to fully experience Japan. Of course, you must abide by certain rules of conduct when staying with a host family. We have collected some of the most common rules together as the Homestay Rules.

You are guaranteed to have your own private room, which may be either Japanese or Western style. All rooms have a desk and chair, bed/futon, and air-conditioning or heater.

  • The kitchen, living area and bathroom/toilet facilities are shared with the host family.
  • Most but not all Japanese homes have Internet access, so you may be able to use their computer to access the Internet. However, few homes have wireless Internet.
  • Some host families may prepare a bicycle for you to use.

Host families are chosen to be as close to the school, and the center of Fukuoka City, as possible. All host families are within one hour traveling time of the school by public transport.

Fukuoka Language CoursesBreakfast is included in the accommodation cost. Generally you will be expected to eat the same food as your host family. A traditional Japanese breakfast often includes rice, fish and miso soup. You can request your host family to prepare toast, cereal or other foods for you. Dinner can be arranged with the host family for 500 yen per night. To book dinner, tell your host family at least one day in advance that you want to eat with them, and pay the fee at that time.

Please note that it may be very difficult for host families to meet any special dietary requirements you might have, such as vegetarianism or food allergies, as these are less common in Japan. In paticular, vegetarianism is not well understood, and many common sauces and flavorings contain traces of meat or fish extract. It is usually recommended for strict vegetarians to cook their own food where possible.

Dormitory

A private room in a dormitory with our students and Japanese university students gives you the freedom to enjoy the city life, but also the chance to make lots of friends. We currently have 5 dorms available for you to choose from, depending on your preference. If you have a specific request, please add it as a comment when you fill out the estimate request form, so we can make sure to estimate the correct accommodation fee for you.

Breakfast in all of the dormitories is usually limited to one or two choices. Dinner is buffet-style, with a range of choices. However, none of the choices are strictly vegetarian (i.e., they may use animal fats or extracts). Communal areas of all dorms are non-smoking. You can smoke in your room. Under-18 students can stay in any dorm. Female under-18 students must stay in one of the female-only dorms.

Tomo

Fukuoka Language CoursesWe have used this dorm since our school started. There are actually two buildings, close to each other. One houses about 50 students, and the other houses 10. The dorm is rated highly by students, except for its location - in a quiet area quite far from school. Most of the Japanese people living there study at the nearby Fukuoka Industrial University. The owners are lovely people, and often arrange intercultural events and parties for our students. The "obasan" treats students like her own children, and the dorm feels like a large family (unlike the other dorms we contract with). There are also many chances to interact with Japanese people. You must arrive by 9pm on the first day to check in at the dorm. On other days, there is no curfew.

Shared Apartment

Fukuoka Language CoursesStaying with other people in the city gives you the opportunity to make friends easily, and go out freely, but still have a good level of privacy and freedom. In a shared apartment you have your own private room, but share the central facilities, such as laundry, kitchen, living room, bathroom. The apartments are usually owned by a Japanese person, who rents a room out to our students. Important differences from host families are that the Japanese owner may not be home a lot, and you are expected to take care of yourself. Most of these apartments are quite close to the center of the city. They may or may not have Internet access. You must cook all of your own meals

Private Apartment

Private apartments are usually similar to a hotel room in quality, and can be rented by the week. They include a bed, living room area, kitchen area, and bathroom. All necessary appliances are usually also in the apartment, including a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, air conditioner, TV, etc. Internet may be included in the standard price, or an optional extra.

Most private apartments are very centrally located, in the main business/entertainment district and within easy walking distance of the school itself. As these apartments are maintained by a separate company, we must confirm availability with them before we can complete your booking. There is also a chance that the cost may be slightly more or less than we estimated, depending on special offers from the company, holiday pricing, etc.

You can choose from 4 different apartment buildings:
