Italian Language and Italian Art
Institute in Florence

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is the ideal destination for those interested in studying Italian Art, Culture and Language. In fact, it is here that the Italian language finds its origins with Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio. The city is rich in history and traditions and it holds a wealth of Italian art in its museums, churches and monuments which are famous throughout the world.

The Italian Art and Italian Language Institute, which opened its doors in 1973, was one of the very first in Florence to specialize in the teaching of Italian as a foreign language. The Institute is situated in the San Lorenzo quarter in the heart of the old part of the city, just a few steps away from the Medici Chapels and the famed central market area.

Florence is not only known for its art and culture but also for its exceptional cuisine, typical trattorie, ancient gelaterie, wine bars, elegant shops, artistic workshops and characteristic markets.

Throughout the year a series of concerts and shows are able to satisfy the most varied interests: from the Musical Concerts of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to fashion shows and events.

Additionally, Florence offers an excellent location which makes it easy to reach many other artistic cities of Tuscany: Pisa, Lucca, Siena and the wonders of Chianti, the Tuscan coastline and the Appenine mountains.

The Institute offers its students a unique opportunity to study in Florence with college students from all over the world. It offers the only international academic program in Italy, which is primarily directed towards students who are interested in sharing the Florence experience with students from other lands and cultures.

Housed in a former convent dating back to the medieval period (the adjacent thirteenth century church of San Jacopo Corbolini is integrated into the complex) the Instutute underwent extensive renovation and today provides a wide range of modern conveniences such as a cafeteria, air-conditioning, reading rooms and an attractive courtyard garden.
