Application Deadlines
Normally, we must receive your application and a full payment of tuition fees no later than 40 days before the program starts. Acceptance of late applications is subject to space availability.
Visa Regulations
Citizens of the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan and many other countries in possession of a valid passport, are not required to obtain a visa for Germany for a period of up to 90 days if traveling as a tourist or for business purposes.
All persons who wish to study at a high school, college or university in Germany are required to obtain a residence permit. Citizens of the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, as well as EU citizens may apply for their residence permit after entering Germany without a visa.Citizens of other countries are required to apply and obtain a residence permit prior to entry.
Upon submission of all required documents the application will be forwarded to the Aliens' Office (Ausländeramt) competent for your intended place of residence in Germany. Student visa applications take about 25 days to be processed. After the application has been approved by the Aliens' Office the Consulate will issue a residence permit in the form of a visa. The Aliens' Office requires all residence permit holders to register upon their first arrival. A final residence permit for the duration of your studies will be granted in Germany after arrival..
Financial Aid
In many cases, it is possible for students to transfer much or all of their financial aid to IPSA study abroad programs. However, students should discuss specific plans with study abroad advisers and financial aid counselors well in advance of the program. It is the student's responsibility to understand the home institution's requiremnents and deadlines regarding all financial aid funds.
Academic Credits
Students who wish to receive credit for our programs should contact the study abroad office or German language department at your college or university prior to starting the program. Present your plan to them asking for detailed requirements on how to arrange credit in advance. With the detailed information from your home-campus, we can typically provide syllabae and other documentation to complete arrangements.
How to apply?
We encourage you to apply online, but you may also print out a monospaced Printable Application Form from your browser, complete it and send your application by mail or Fax. Please note that you may apply online only if you pay an application fee and deposit online by credit card.
We accept VISA and MasterCard. In our Online Secure Form, we utilize the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) authentication and RC4 128 bit encryption technology. SSL encryption protects information being transmitted across the internet to our processing center.
If you are going to pay an application fee by check, money order or by wire transfer, please use a monospaced printable Application Form.
Please send us the folowing:
- Completed application (printed or online).
- An autobiographical essay including reasons for wishing to study abroad (optional).
- A non-refundable application fee of US$75 and a tuition deposit of US$200. The tuition deposit is part of the cost of your course and is deducted from the total tuition fees after conversion in Euro according to the current exchange rate. Please note that your application will be considered only when your payment of the Application Fee and deposit has been received.
Other Terms and Conditions
General
- IPSA and Member Schools are not liable in any cases of force majeure (according to the law) or for actions of the students and their consequences.
- Minimum age of the participant is 18.
- There are no classes on official holidays.
- In case there are not enough registrations for any one class in group per level, or if an implementation of the course is not possible for reasons beyond our responsibility, we will not be obliged to run the course. The School reserves a right to reduce the number of lessons given accordingly if there are not enough students for particular level. If there is no appropriate group for a particular student according to her or his level, the School reserves a right to substitute group classes by the individual language training (i.e. 5 lessons of instruction in group is equal to one lesson of individual instruction). There is no refund of tuition, material and other fees if the student refuses to attend individual classes or group classes with reduced number of periods.
Insurance
You are not insured against illness or accidents, theft or loss of personal possessions through the school or those offering the accommodation. We therefore highly recommend to take a medical and personal insurance policy valid in Germany.
Postponement of Courses, Changes and Last Minute Bookings
- The office must receive written notification at least 30 days before your course begins in order to transfer your reservation to a later course date.
- For last minute bookings, last minute changes and late payments (arrival within 30 days) a non-refundable supplement of €60 will be charged. Should we not receive the payment 2 weeks before the course begins, the booking may be cancelled automatically.
Cancellation before arrival
You must inform the office in writing. Cancellation fees are charged as follows, and any balance is refunded less non-refundable items and bank fees if any:
More than 30 days before the course begins: Cancellation fee of €200.
No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than 30 days before the course starts.
EXCEPTIONS: Students who do not obtain a visa, will be refunded the complete amount paid less non-refundable items (application fee, international courier service and bank charges if any) and administration fee of €200, if they inform the office in writing no later than 21 days before the program starts. The student also must return to the Enrollment Center the official Letter of Acceptance and the denial letter from the German Embassy (Consulate). Students do not qualify for a refund after they have received their visas unless they provide a letter from the German Embassy (Consulate) confirming that the visa was cancelled no later than 21 days before the program starts. If the letter of acceptance has been sent to the student from the country whose citizens require visas to enter Germany, we must receive a letter from the German Embassy (Consulate) confirming that this student didn't apply for visa using the Letter of Acceptance. Without such letter from the German Embassy (Consulate) this student does not qualify for refund. Any refunds will be made within 30 days of cancellation notification or receiving the above mentioned documents.
Cancellation after arrival
In no case money will be refunded once the course and/or lodging has started. No refund can be given for partial attendance or the discontinuance or interruption of a course.
