General English Courses

General English program offers four foundational courses that will help students to develop a strong understanding of the English language. The courses included are Grammar & Idioms, Listening & Speaking, Reading & Vocabulary and Writing & Presentation. The program is offered in the mornings and provides 20 lessons per week.

The following General English programs are also avaialble:

  • General English with 25 lessons (50 minutes per lesson) a week:
    includes all of the core classes available in the General English program. In addition, students have the option of choosing an additional elective. This program is offered in the mornings, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30 and 13:50.

  • Intensive program with 30 lessons a week:
    designed for students who want to learn at a faster pace. Students have the option of choosing two additional elective courses.


  • Private Classes
    Private and Semi-Private (groups of two or more) course are offered covering a wide range of topics and languages with great flexibility. You can arrange for regular Language Tutorials or Executive Language Tutorials. Your teacher will work with you to customize your lessons. You can even combine this program with other General English programs.

Elective Courses

Elective course are included in General English courses with 25. 30 and 35 lessons a week.

Elective 1

  1. English for Beginners
    English for Beginners is a course specifically designed to help beginner students overcome individual language challenges. The course is taught in very small groups so that students receive individualized attention as they are expedited through their areas of need. This course is only offered to lower levels and in small groups.

  2. Accent Reduction
    Depending on your native tongue, you will have difficulties with a certain aspect of grasping the English accent. This course is offered to speakers of specific languages. The instructor will focus on the specific pronunciation needs of those language speakers. For example: "Accent Reduction for Japanese" is designed specifically to deal with pronunciation issues relating to Japanese speakers. Course offered on demand to classes of 5 students or more.

  3. Journalism
    This class will improve all of your English skills through an integrated approach to learning. You will work on specific projects each week and learn more about your school, Canada and the world. Practice your reporting, writing, interviewing and collaborating skills to create a school newspaper that all students love.

  4. TOEIC Preparation
    Used by corporations and government agencies alike, the TOEIC score is one of the most reliable methods of testing workplace English communication ability. Our TOEIC class will help you build the listening and reading comprehension skills needed to achieve a high score on this examination.

  5. TOEFL Preparation
    Recognized by universities, colleges and businesses worldwide, successful completion of the TOEFL iBT can help you achieve your professional and academic goals. In addition to learning test taking strategies, this course will also take you through simulation tests to assure success on your exam day.

  6. IELTS Preparation
    The IELTS test score is frequently used by educational institutions, employers and government agencies to assess a candidate's overall English abilities. Our IELTS test preparation course will help you become familiar with the IELTS testing format and help you increase your test score. The course is also ideal for anyone wanting to strengthen all four language skills.


  7. Test preparation electives will fill up two periods and available only with Intensive and Super Intensive course.

Elective 2

  1. Conversation & Pronunciation
    Improve your verbal skills and gain confidence by learning vocabulary and phrases needed to discuss current events and everyday activities. By taking this class, you will improve your fluency and pronunciation so that you can clearly express yourself outside of the classroom.

  2. Slang & Idioms
    Native English speakers, movies, television and even business people use unusual English words and phrases all the time. To really understand the language, people and the culture of a particular country, it is extremely important to learn these idioms and phrases that you will not find in most English textbooks or classes.

  3. English for Sports
    If you are a sports fanatic who enjoys discussing everything from archery to zumba and anything in between, then this elective is for you! Emphasis is placed on building students' language abilities within the context of sports. You will have the opportunity to look at topics that include, but are not limited to: the history of sports, the Olympics, hobbies, team and individual sports.

  4. English Literature
    This intellectually stimulating elective, allows students the opportunity to interpret language within the context of English Literature. Through the exploration of English language Literature, students are able to experiment with how to incorporate this language into everyday use. This course is especially useful for students who are currently education professionals or pursuing a post-secondary education qualification.

  5. Academic Writing
    With an increase in international students seeking to gain admission to Canadian post-secondary institutions, there is a greater need for students to be able to demonstrate a level of proficiency in their academic writings. The Academic Writing elective offers students the opportunity to fine-tune their writing skills, so that they can effectively produce works that are appropriate in an academic setting, and on par with those produced by native English writers.
