CELTA Course: Enrollment.
Thank you for your interest
in CELTA Course in England!
The admissions process (including the requirement for an interview) immediately gave me a sense that this is truly a quality program; one that has standards. (Tom Brown, February 2001)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Acceptance into the program is not automatic. Applicants are accepted on the basis of their performance in a language evaluation task and an interview. Our basic requirements are as follows:
- All applicants, whether native or non-native speakers of English, must have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to undertake the course.
- Candidates are normally required to have a BA/BS degree or at least a standard of education which would allow entry to higher education in their country. (This requirement may sometimes be waived.)
- All candidates are required to have some previous experience of formal or informal study of a foreign language.
- Previous teaching experience is not required.
- Candidates must be at least 20 years old by the start of their CELTA course.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application Deadlines
Normally, we must receive a complete set of application documents and fees no later than 30 days before the program starts. Please note that the course is very popular, places are limited and applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. Therefore, we strongly recommend to apply as far in advance as possible (minimum 2 or 3 months in advance).
How to apply?
You need to complete and return the Application and the Pre-Interview Task. A non-refundable application fee of US $100 and the Tuition Deposit of $200 (refundable in full if the candidate is not accepted) are required with your application.
The Tuition Deposit is part of the cost of your course and is deducted from the total tuition fee. Please note that your application will be considered only when your payment of the Application Fee and Deposit has been received.
You may apply online via our secure online application form or you can print out the Application and the Pre-Interview Task, complete them and send by mail or fax to the Enrollment Center. You will find links to both forms on this page below.
Interview
As soon as we receive your application and the Pre-Interview Task, we will inform you if you qualify for the interview. If you qualify, we will call you to set up an appointment for an interview. If you live outside London or Brighton, this interview may be conducted by phone. If you live outside of the United Kingdom, an additional fee for the international phone call will be charged.
The aim of the interview is to inform applicants about the course at this centre and to assess both the suitability of the applicant for the course and the suitability of the course for their career plans.
Successful applicants will demonstrate at interview and in pre-interview tasks:
- An appropriate awareness of the English language as it is used and its difficulties for learners.
- An ability to analyse language at a suitable level and to express ideas clearly.
- A willingness to engage in discussion of teaching/learning approaches.
- Self-awareness and flexibility of approach.
- Willingness to interact, listen and respond appropriately.
- An ability to take pressure and maintain positive rapport.
- A competence in written and spoken English that will enable them to teach the language to students without causing error.
At the end of the interview, we will let you know whether you have been accepted. We will then send you a confirmation letter, invoice and an Enrollment Agreement.
Enrollment Agreement
and Payment of Fees
- You must return the Enrollment Agreement together with the balance of fees due no later than two weeks before the start of the course.
- Upon receipt of the Enrollment Agreement and the payment of fees due, we will confirm your place on the course and send you the pre-course assignment, as well as an official letter of acceptance, if required.
