Program and Courses

You will be asked to take a test on your first Monday morning (unless you're a beginner), to establish your standard so that we can put you in the right class for you. Because the classes are so small, between 2 and 6 people per class, you can concentrate on those areas which you particularly need.

In fine weather, we can sometimes ...
have lessons outside, in the school grounds!

General Information

The school's teachers are well-experienced and all are university, college and academy educated in German as a foreign language and the lessons make use of the most up to date texts and methods.

The emphasis is on speaking and comprehension. Because of the very small classes, you progress much faster than if you were in a class with 15 or 20 other students. It is an intensive course and you will improve very quickly with our method.

Weekly Intensive Group Course

Tuition: Most people take the weekly course. Tuition is from 9:00 in the morning to 12:15, Monday to Friday. You can stay for as many weeks as you would like to, with a minimum of one week. The course includes participation in the free time programme.

Group size: The Weekly Intensive Group Course has classes of between 2 and 6 people per class. This is a very intensive learning experience. You learn a lot faster in such a small group: compare this with learning in a class of between 10 and 20 people - you participate more, the challenge is greater, you have more control over what you study and what topics or grammar points are discussed or studied, you get more individual attention from your teacher, you get to know your teacher better as well as your class mates, and there are many other advantages.

Standards: We have groups of every standard from absolute beginner to the very advanced. We ask everyone (except beginners) to take a short test on their first Monday morning so that we can put you in the right class for your standard. If you are the only person of your particular standard, we do not cancel your course as most schools do: instead, we offer you a course with full participation in the free time programme etc, but we reduce your lesson time from 9:00 to 11:30 (instead of 12:15, that is you get 3 lesson of 45 minutes per unit, instead of 4 ). You effectively get private lessons at the group rate.

The weekly programme looks like this:

Evening classes: These take place twice a week (see weekly programme table above), and are open to all students of all standards. These are more relaxed than the formal teaching in the morning lessons, and students are encouraged to submit ideas for the evening classes. The classes can range from presentations about Austrian and German history, slides of the famous cities of Austria and Germany, video showings, language games, specific grammar points chosen by students, "typical error" sessions, pronunciation drills and many other options.

US College Credits: Our programme has been approved by American schools, colleges and universities for the credit system. That said, our understanding of the credit system is that each university has its own approval procedures. As the School has already been approved by other American colleges, it is very likely that your college will approve the school too.

If you need or would like college credits, please check with your own college's procedure for recognition of foreign language schools, send us an email with your proposed dates and current standard of German and we can send a sample program of the course you are likely to cover during your chosen time frame, and any other information your credit office requires.

Accreditation: The School is recognised by Campus Austria, the governmental body authorised by the Austrian Ministry of Education for the approval of German language schools in Austria. Some American colleges require only national recognition status in order to accept that school for credit purposes. If this is the case with your college, then obtaining college credits should be a fairly painless procedure.

Private Individual Lessons

Some people prefer one to one tuition. This is available to students of all standards, and you can opt either to take private lessons in addition to the DIT Weekly Intensive Group Course, or to have all your lessons on a private basis. If you have special topics that you would like covered in your lessons, then you are of course free to ask for these. It would help us a lot if you could discuss these requirements by email so that we can ensure that your teacher is properly

Please provide us with as many details as possible of your preferred dates, the size of your group, the standard of German of the participants, your preferred accommodation-type, your preferred free time activities etc and we will make you an offer.

Small groups of 5-20 students: It may be possible to accommodate your whole group in the school building itself, although some accommodation may have to be taken up in nearby pensions.

The hotel is very central and ideal for both summer and winter courses. In the ski season, reductions on lift passes and ski hire are available for groups of more than 20 students.
